DNS lookup

Query any record type, live. Handy for checking mail (MX), ownership TXT records, and whether a DNS change has propagated.

Good to know

Which record type do I need?

A/AAAA point a name at a server's IP. CNAME aliases one name to another. MX routes email. TXT carries verification strings and SPF. NS shows which nameservers answer for the domain. CAA restricts who may issue SSL certificates for it.

My DNS change isn't showing — why?

DNS answers are cached for the record's TTL (often 5 minutes to 24 hours). If you just changed a record, the old value can keep appearing until caches expire. This tool queries live resolvers, so it reflects propagation honestly.

What should my records look like for a website?

Typically an A record on the apex pointing at your host's IP and a www CNAME to the apex. Sites built on xigzag get these set automatically when you buy or connect a domain.
